Most of the time a sewer and drains can be cleared with a simple snake service, but for those hard stoppages that just won’t drain, Hydro Jetting is recommended.

Hydro Jetting is a service that its technology is 98% affective of clearing any drain, any time! The purpose of drain pipes is to carry waste out of your home and into the city’s sewer system. It is important that waste be disposed of properly because leaking pipes can cause water damage, clogged drains, mold, and mildew growth. All of which poses a serious risk to the health and safety of you and your family.

Drain lines under older homes are normally made out of cast iron or galvanized steel, which eventually corrode and decay over time. While rust deposits and corrosion create clogs, old age and deterioration cause the pipe to bottom out, creating continuous leaks.

Most drains clear the first time after a snake service, but for those stubborn drains that just won’t clear, a spot repair or drain replacement may be required.

Old rigid cast iron drains under a home or in slab flooring is commonly replaced with smooth durable Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) or Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). ABS and PVC are both durable plastic drain pipes that are non-toxic and resistant to abrasion, allowing for smooth waste flow.

Although cast iron drains are still used on some properties, plastic drain pipes are most popular with homeowners due to its cost efficiency and long-life duration.

Sewer line repairs were typically performed by using the “Full Trench” or “trench” method to access a portion of a pipe or to install a whole new sewer line. However, todays advance in sewer technology is giving home and business owners cost effective options for sewer repairs with much less destruction to their property.

The popular methods of repairs are: Trenchless Pipe Bursting and Cured In Place Pipe Lining CIPP, (see CIPP Liner for more info). Both pipe bursting and liner methods are considerably less expensive and destructive to rehabilitate a sewer than a full trench method because of the reduced time it takes to repair it and considerably less landscape damage required.

Trenchless pipe bursting is a less intrusive method for replacing sewers because instead of using backhoes to trench out the entire sewer length, only two excavations are needed to pipe burst a new sewer.

Pipe bursting works by the excavation of two holes, one at the begging of the pipe and one at the end of the pipe. A hydraulic machine is placed at one end, while a steel cable with a special cutting head passes through the existing pipe to the other end.

As the hydraulic machine pulls on the cable, the cutting head with a new seamless plastic pipe attached to it enters the existing pipe, cutting the old one out of the way; hence the new pipe takes the place of the old one.

Because the new sewer pipe is seamless, it’s highly resistant to leaks and root intrusion, extending its life expectancy. Plus, aside from being less costly than the full trench method, pipe bursting causes less destruction, capable of upsizing pipes, and passes through all types of materials such as: cast iron, clay, terra cotta, plastic and concrete.

Sooner or later as with all older homes, sewer and drain pipes eventually deteriorate leaving you with the headache of dealing with either slow drains or a stoppage, crippling your plumbing system.

But even after deciding to carry out necessary repairs, you’re faced with the dilemma of fully trenching out the sewer, which can be time-consuming accompanied with expensive labor costs. However, all this can be easily avoided by inserting a CIPP liner.

CIPP, a Cured in Place Pipe liner is a modern innovative approach that’s becoming the go-to procedure for rehabilitating failed, broken, cracked, and leaky pipes. The trench-less technology entails the use of a liner to create a new pipe within the old one, making it a highly popular and effective repair method when Trenchless Pipe Bursting isn’t an option.
